» Caving in LEBANON
Mother Nature carries strange surprises hidden or reflected in different species and stones even those underground.

Lebanon abounds in grottos almost 400 of which three only devoted to tourism: Jeita, Qadicha and Kfarhim. Others cannot be visited without experts in the field of grottos exploration. Beginners might start their journey in the Rouaiss grotto, considered second big grotto in Lebanon after jeita. It comprises big rooms 90m underground.

The water passing through this grotto forms a spring, an affluent of the famous Nahr Ibrahim. Throughout years, water carved in stones unusual stalactites and stalagmites which take millions of years to exist.

If Rouaiss grotto, near Aakoura on the hills of Jbeil is an exciting exploration adventure, Afqa grotto is a travel in ancient myths because it was the scene of the famous Phoenician legend of Adonis and Ishtar.
